Park Hyatt Jakarta Combines Contemporary Design And Sophisticated Luxury With Indonesia At Its Core

Designed by the award-winning design practice Conran and Partners led by Tina Norden, the newly opened hotel offers a modern residential-style oasis in Jakarta

On behalf of Hyatt, we are delighted share the design story Park Hyatt Jakarta which opened on July 8, 2022, located in the tranquil Menteng area in the heart of Jakarta’s bustling central business district, marking the highly anticipated debut of the Park Hyatt brand in Indonesia. The hotel offers a distinctive collection of culinary, leisure and wellness experiences as well as unique event venues for bespoke celebrations, delivering the epitome of luxury in Jakarta.

Design Overview by Tina Norden, Partner at Conran and Partners

The hotel reflects Indonesia’s intricately layered diversity and takes inspiration from the vivid contrast between Jakarta’s modern urbanity and the country’s ancient natural environment. Park Hyatt Jakarta occupies the top 17 floors of the 37-story Park Tower in the center of the city’s financial and diplomatic district. The hotel’s surrounding area, Menteng, was originally conceived in the early 20th century as a garden city and is now known for its peaceful tree-lined streets, abundant greenery and elegant heritage architecture.

Contemporary Design, with Indonesia at its Core

Inspired by the beauty of the Indonesian rainforests, traditional crafts and indigenous natural materials, the interior design of Park Hyatt Jakarta uses elements such as lava stone and copper as well as handwoven ikat textile motifs, intricate wood carvings and shields which are used to create a welcoming oasis of calm and elegance. The visual journey through the property symbolizes the layers of a rainforest, starting with a richer, darker colour scheme on the lower floors that calls to mind the forest’s understory. Reflective of branches wrapped around the trunk with dappled light filtered through the canopy, the palette becomes lighter on the higher floors with warm tones incorporated throughout. Through the atmospheric transition and evocative design, guests will be transported from Jakarta’s urban bustle into a tranquil, sophisticated and comforting environment with a strong sense of location overlooking the city.

A private art collection, curated by Indonesia’s acclaimed Hadiprana design consultants, seamlessly merges traditional heritage with sleek contemporary designs, creating a subtle contrast between Jakarta’s modern urbanity and the country’s ancient natural environment. Guests can also admire specially commissioned works by celebrated Indonesian artist John Martono, whose swirling abstracts blend painting and hand embroidery on silk. European inspirations are also evident. One of the hotel’s most striking features is a series of hand-blown crystal installations and chandeliers, made up of thousands of delicate orbs that hover like clouds, reflective of rainfall and starlit skies. A nod to the archipelago’s diverse cultural heritage, the guestrooms feature exquisite traditional Indonesian crowns made from copper, which is also widely applied as an interior accent for a subtle touch of splendour.

Seamless Arrival

The sky lobby on level 23 looks out to the dramatic skyline from its elevated and intimate environs. Following a dramatic passage with copper archways and ceremonial artwork, the guests will be led to fabric-covered enclosures desks for private check-in.

A series of public areas located on the opposite side where guests can work and relax at the bright and welcoming library surrounded by tall shelving with books and artefacts. The long and linear Living Room is separated into intimate seating areas by delicately detailed metal screens referencing traditional Indonesian motifs, featuring the contemporary Ikat patterns rugs throughout the spaces on a bold scale.

Designed as an external terrace space, the Patisserie is in a corner of the building with an expansive view and reachable directly through the lift lobby, highlighted by a warm timber ceiling, fans and quirky artwork and lighting. Accessed via a discreet secret door, an intimate The Bar is set over two levels with a dramatic central copper bar with a champagne bubble chandelier, a carpet referencing timber textures and large-scale photographic pieces that bring the notion of a rainforest into the room.

Elegant Accommodation

Park Hyatt Jakarta features 220 elegant, oversized rooms, including 36 suites. Guestrooms range from approximately 615 to 915 square feet (57 to 85 square meters), while the suites are from approximately 935 2,450 square feet (87 to 300 square meters).

On entering the rooms, guests are immediately welcomed with the view out of the full height and wide width windows, framed by a central corridor in the black stone, used in polished and textured finishes against a darker timber colour. This dark central core contains the functional spaces such as a generous dressing room, a powder room and a luxurious pair of bathrooms – one on each side of the central passage. One has a generous bath and the other a spacious walk-in shower – both set off the dark stone floors and walls with a bright white feature vanity complemented by copper highlights.

The living spaces are bright and airy with an elegant, slatted screen separating the sleeping area from the working and relaxing spaces by the window. Bespoke glass and copper pendants frame the bed, and the desk is carved out of a tree trunk bringing the warmth of the local timber to the room. Two ikat patterned fabric panels frame the elevations to the bathrooms and a carved timber panel as well as a traditional intricate wedding head piece bringing in a subtle local flavour.

Stylish Dining and Drinking Venues for Socializing

Park Hyatt Jakarta’s stylish restaurants and bars create the ideal backdrop for residents and visitors to socialize, entertain and relax in an enriching environment. The Dining Room on the level below the Sky Lobby highlights Indonesian and Italian cuisines in an interactive live cooking setting. The Dining Room features a spiral staircase that descends surrounded by a landscaped terrace at the lower level.

The Dining Room is configured around a big open kitchen with a woodfired oven. The dining areas are broken into defined zones that include semi-private spaces that can be closed off via pivoting doors. The material palette is bright and airy, but warmth is brought through artwork and natural materials that include the textured black ‘lava’ stone.

Occupying the top two levels of the building, KITA喜多 Restaurant & KITA Bar is a destination offering an authentic Japanese Dining experience that complements the Jakarta restaurant and bar scene. The rooftop location takes a fashionable expression creating a multisensorial series of spaces for all entertainment needs to create an atmosphere like a private house, welcoming, residential in scale with a relaxed type of luxury.

The lofty timber ceiling, planting and brick stone floor is designed to allow guests to feel like an open external terrace space. The Japanese concept is taken through authentically, from the food offering to artwork and use of Japanese motifs and textures throughout to enhance this ultimate experience.

Embracing a Rainforest Narrative at The Spa

The emergent layer is seen in the rainforest analogy, The Spa at Park Hyatt Jakarta is set over two floors, offering a choice selection of wellness and leisure experiences.

Emerging from the central core and trunk of the building expressed by the dark textured stone, The Spa is light, airy and features stunning panoramic views and terraces. Guests are welcomed into a spacious walkway with a number of artworks, from a dramatic row of intricate small sculptures to a large timber sphere.

The feature pool area is roofed over but open to the elements and leads seamlessly to an open terrace with a pool bar. A timber ceiling unites the space, set over levels to the pool which appears flush on entering but is set up from the lounge areas on the external side.
