Established in 1980 by Chairman and Founder Steve Rushmore, MAI, FRICS, CHA, and now directed by President and CEO Stephen Rushmore, Jr, MAI, the company offers a comprehensive scope of services and specialized industry expertise to help you enhance the economic returns and value of your hospitality assets.


Steve Rushmore began his career in the 1970s as a consultant in the hospitality division of a prestigious New York City real estate firm. Through that experience, he noted the limited body of knowledge available to assess the value of hotels and motels, taking into consideration both the business and real estate components. Rushmore literally wrote the first book on this subject, The Valuation of Hotels and Motels, quickly became the defining work on this subject, and soon after, HVS was realized. The HVS method of providing and economic study and appraisal for hotels immediately became, and continues to be, the industry standard.


Stephen Rushmore, Jr. directs the worldwide operation of the firm and is responsible for future office expansion and new product development. He is a state certified appraiser in New York, New Hampshire, and New Jersey, and he frequently lectures at major hotel schools around the world. Stephen earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the Cornell School for Hospitality Administration. He is a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and is on the Advisory Board for the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), the nation’s oldest outdoor recreation and conservation organization. In his free time, Stephen enjoys bicycling, skiing, and as an instrument rated pilot, enjoys flying small airplanes with his wife and family.
