Translating into English as ‘the way’, Dao by Dorsett is inspired by the Chinese word ‘道’ and the belief that every person, and every traveller, should be able to create their own path towards harmony. Dao by Dorsett AMTD Singapore will allow guests to ‘live your way, anywhere’ through the brand’s three attributes: Harmonious, Custom-Fit and Social.
Roy Liang states: “I am thrilled to be promoted to VP of Operations for this new and exciting brand, and to able to assist in building something from its infancy stage. Here at Dao we really believe that the aparthotel model and its flexible, hybrid abilities can thrive in all types of scenarios – from both high street locations to non-core central locations; from corporate business travellers to new age digital nomads. We feel that this is a model for the future.”
The first Dao by Dorsett property to launch was Dao West London in June 2022 in the lively neighbourhood of Shepherd’s Bush, West London. This was promptly followed by the launch of Dao by Dorsett AMTD Singapore in August 2022, the group's first location in Asia.
Roy continues: “The first two Dao by Dorsett properties to launch this year are part of a strong pipeline including a number of properties in leading capitals of the world. We have plans to expand in Mainland China, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong and hopefully Australia in the next 2 years.”
Rebranded from Oakwood Premier AMTD Singapore, Dao by Dorsett AMT Singapore is located at OUE Downtown in Singapore's vibrant business district. Socially and locally driven, its ‘aparthotel’ model lets guests enjoy their own custom living space in 268 fully serviced apartments alongside multiple touchpoints to interact with their local environment.
As General Manager of Dao by Dorsett AMTD Singapore, Roy has first hand knowledge and understanding of the customer database and their needs: “Since our launch in August 2022, the property has remained at 85% occupancy and surpassed pre-Covid 2019 ADR by 50% increment.

We have seen that apartment models has really shone better than a typical hotel room for both short and long term stays in the last year. Our 1 and 2 bedroom units come with an in-room washer and dryer, a dining table and full kitchenette. These facilities help the asset attract longer stay travellers and can also cater to high yielding short-stay families or group travel during peak periods- offering a service that traditional hotels can’t rival.”
