China and ASEAN countries are good partners based on the principal of mutual benefits and win-win results. The CAEXPO, sponsored by governments of China and 10 ASEAN countries, has been held successfully for 11 consecutive years. It has served as an important platform of cooperation between China and ASEAN countries. The CAEXPO has become an important annual exhibition at state level with special international influence, promoting the construction of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area and facilitating the pragmatic cooperation in many fields including tourism.
In order to implement the idea of the co-construction of “the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road” proposed by President Xi Jinping, the CAEXPO will be upgraded and the value chain of it will be extended. Based on the successful main exhibition, CAEXPO will hold a series of professional exhibitions in areas with a high degree of complementarities and great cooperation potential. Meanwhile, the CAEXPO will make efforts to promote its comprehensive services and ensure “policy communications, utility connections, trade flow, monetary circulation and mutual understanding among people”.
Tourism is one of the 11 key cooperation fields between China and ASEAN countries. In recent years, the tourism industry of China and ASEAN countries has made a rapid development since the establishment of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area. As a result, China and all the ASEAN countries become important tourist source countries for each other. In view of the bright future of the tourism cooperation between China and ASEAN countries and the rapid development of the construction of Guilin International Tourism Resort, the Chinese Organizing Committee of CAEXPO has decided to hold the CAEXPO Tourism Exhibition in Guilin, Guangxi, annually since 2015. The exhibition will be co-sponsored by China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) and People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Tourism authorities of the 10 ASEAN countries will be invited to participate and take turns to be the Guest Country of Honor. The Ministry of Commerce has approved that a professional exhibition, China-ASEAN Expo Tourism Exhibition will be held in the framework of the CAEXPO.
Themed as “Tourism Cooperation and Development for the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road”, based on the co-sponsorship of the CAEXPO and its available link with ASEAN countries via the CAEXPO, the 2015 CAEXPO Tourism Exhibition, will built itself into an international well-known exposition for the tourism cooperation and exchanges between China and ASEAN and to develop a 10+1 mechanism of international tourism cooperation for regional countries. Trade and investment relations between China and ASEAN countries can be intensified through tourism cooperation. The exhibition will also plays a role of serving for the construction of the upgraded China-ASEAN Free Trade Area and “the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road” as well as promoting the mutual understanding among people from different countries.
The Tourism Exhibition has been included into the CNTA 3-Year Tourism Promotion Program of the “Silk Road Economic Belt” and “the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road”. Guangxi will devote a significant amount of manpower, material and financial resources to make concerted effort with CNTA to ensure a successful Tourism Exhibition to promote international and regional tourism cooperation and to develop an ASEAN-oriented regional multinational tourism distributing center and destination.
