Banyan Group Marks 100 Properties with Landmark 2025 Sustainability Report

Singapore-based Banyan Group has released its 2025 Sustainability Report, celebrating two major milestones: 20 years of sustainability reporting and the achievement of 100 properties worldwide.

Titled “From One Vision to 100 Possibilities,” the report outlines the Group’s next phase of growth—where sustainability is embedded as a core business driver, not just a supporting initiative.

A Milestone Beyond Numbers

From restoring an abandoned tin mine in Phuket to building a global portfolio across 24 countries, Banyan Group has evolved into one of the world’s leading advocates of sustainable hospitality.

Today, the Group operates:
100 hotels and resorts
140+ spas and galleries
29 branded residences
13 global brands

Welcoming 4.7 million guests from 212 countries in 2025, the milestone reflects not just scale—but a consistent philosophy of “Embracing the Environment, Empowering People.”

A Strategic Shift: Double Materiality Approach

A key highlight of the report is Banyan Group’s first double materiality assessment, aligning sustainability with both:

Environmental and social impact

Financial risks and opportunities

This marks a transition from programme-based initiatives to a fully integrated, enterprise-wide sustainability strategy.

Measurable Environmental Progress

Despite continued expansion, the Group reported tangible environmental improvements in 2025:

1.4% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1 & 2)

13% decrease in waste generation
41% waste diversion rate (up from 28% in 2024)

Notably, Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree—the Group’s 100th property—became the first hotel in Singapore to achieve the BCA Green Mark Super Low Energy (Platinum) certification.

Sustainability in Design & Development

New openings across Asia highlight Banyan Group’s regenerative approach:

Banyan Tree Zhuhai Phoenix Bay integrates Lingnan heritage and water-based architecture

Garrya Mu Cang Chai features the world’s largest bamboo-structured resort
Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree sets new benchmarks in energy efficiency

Each property is designed to reflect local culture while minimising environmental impact.

Community Impact at Scale

Through the Banyan Global Foundation, the Group continues to translate sustainability into real-world impact:

32 community projects launched in 2025

2,000+ direct beneficiaries supported
Initiatives within 50 km of each property to ensure local engagement

These efforts support education, livelihoods, and social inclusion across communities.

Investing in People & Culture

With nearly 15,000 associates across 95 nationalities, Banyan Group continues to prioritise workforce development:

1.5 million+ training hours delivered

49,000+ wellbeing programme participations
Associate Wellbeing Index increased to 76.1%

Meanwhile, Banyan Gallery supports 339 artisan groups, preserving traditional crafts while generating sustainable income.

The Next Phase: Three Impact Pathways

Looking ahead, Banyan Group is focusing on three strategic sustainability pillars:

Ecosystem Stewardship

Protecting biodiversity and managing resources responsibly

Community Resilience

Strengthening cultural heritage and local economies

Inclusive Prosperity

Creating opportunities through people, partnerships, and governance

These priorities were shaped through the Group’s inaugural Sustainability Impact Lab, aligning leadership around over 40 actionable initiatives for 2026.

Redefining Sustainable Hospitality

According to Founder Ho Kwon Ping, sustainability is inseparable from long-term success:

“Sustainability is not peripheral to business performance. It is part of how long-term value is protected and created.”

A Model for the Future of Travel

With sustainability now embedded across operations, design, and strategy, Banyan Group continues to position itself at the forefront of regenerative tourism and purpose-driven hospitality.
