London, United Kingdom, 4th November 2022: The favourite hotels, destination, airline and cruise line of the GHA DISCOVERY programme with 22 million global travellers were revealed at the 14th edition of luxury travel awards ceremony, the ULTRAs, on Monday 31st October 2022.


Celebrating the world’s leading travel companies and destinations, the ULTRAs is a must-attend yearly event for the luxury travel elite, organised by Nick Perry, Chairman of multi-media brand Ultratravel, with whom Global Hotel Alliance, the world’s largest alliance of independent hotel brands and operator of award-winning loyalty programme GHA DISCOVERY has a successful joint venture - the Ultratravel Collection. Staged at the elegant Pan Pacific London, a new landmark address in the city, the ULTRAs acknowledged the success of leading travel entities across 15 categories, with winners of each voted for by GHA DISCOVERY’s membership.


Seven categories celebrated the achievements of properties operated by GHA’s hotel brands, with Capella Singapore crowned ‘Ultratravel Collection Hotel of the Year’ and The David Kempinski, Tel Aviv, named ‘Best New Hotel’. The ‘Best Resort Hotel’ accolade was scooped by Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort, St Lucia, while the Corinthia London was recognised as ‘Best City Hotel’. With sustainability a hot topic at the Ultratravel Forum, which took place prior to the awards, the hotly contested ‘Sustainable Hotel of the Year’ gong was collected by PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, Singapore, a property pioneering responsible hospitality and the country’s first ‘Garden-in-a-Hotel’.


GHA DISCOVERY members also voted for their favourite airlines, airport and cruise line, with Dubai carrier Emirates winning two awards with the airline’s president, Sir Tim Clark, who spoke at the forum, receiving the ‘Best Airline in the World’ and ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’. Its hub, Dubai International, was a hot contender for ‘Best Airport in the World’, but the award was scooped by Changi Singapore.


When it comes to holidays at sea, GHA DISCOVERY members voted for Regent Seven Seas Cruises as ‘The Best Luxury Cruise Line’, while on land, their sought-after destinations included Italy, the Maldives, the United Arab Emirates and the US, all runners up in the ‘Favourite Country for a Holiday’ category. The winner, however, was Thailand, the home of many popular GHA hotel brands.

The awards, which were presented by a raft of UK TV presenters and personalities including Kirsty Gallacher, Gethin Jones, Dr Ranj Singh and Sky News anchor Sarah-Jane Mee, also shined the spotlight on Hope and Homes for Children, one of the charitable organisations the ULTRAs supports. The anti-orphanage charity took the opportunity to raise industry awareness of its ‘End Orphanage Tourism’ campaign, explaining how visiting orphanages on holiday harms children.

Responsible tourism was a hot topic of debate at the Ultratravel Forum, with panelists entering an honest discussion about the challenges of reaching net zero including the CEOs of GHA shareholder Minor Hotels, luxury cruise operator and event sponsor Explora Journeys, private jet firm Fly Victor and luxury industry sustainability solution provider, Positive Luxury.

The audience of 300-plus travel professionals also heard from The Economist’s Daniel Franklin, who stressed that despite ongoing pandemic-related challenges and growing geopolitical and economic turmoil, there was a “luxury now or never” mentality, which could benefit the luxury travel segment. Emirates’ Sir Tim Clark painted a rosier picture, highlighting much of the airline’s entire network was very well booked up until February. The carrier’s new Premium Economy product had been an instant success since its August 2022 launch, he revealed.

Echoing this positive sentiment, GHA CEO Chris Hartley told the ULTRAs audience that travel’s rebound was in full swing, as evidenced by the recently reported stellar nine-month performance of GHA hotel brands, with total revenue generated by GHA DISCOVERY members reaching US$900 million, up 68% on 2021 and reaching 84% of pre-pandemic (2019) levels on a like for like basis.

“We are confident this upswing will continue into 2023 as the industry returns to, or even exceeds, pre-pandemic performance, and as our ULTRAs and Ultratravel Forum have demonstrated, the appetite for travel continues to accelerate with GHA DISCOVERY members appreciating more than ever the aspirational luxury travel experiences our best-in-class winners and runners-up present.” He congratulated the audience for their commitment to excellence and the contribution to travel’s comeback.

Tanah Gajah, a Resort by Hadiprana, Lands Coveted Spot on Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Award

The popular resort is named #4 Best Resort in Indonesia and #31 Best Resort in the World

(UBUD - BALI) Oct. 10, 2022 – Tanah Gajah, a Resort by Hadiprana, a homegrown resort moored amid the rice paddies of Ubud, was chosen by some of the world’s most discerning travelers as one of the best resorts, globally, last week.

In the Condé Nast Traveler annual Readers’ Choice Awards, announced on October 4th, Tanah Gajah was recognized as the 4th Best Resort in Indonesia and 31st Best Resort in the world.

More than 240,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers submitted responses rating their travel experiences across the globe to provide a snapshot of the top places they enjoyed this year and can’t wait to return to next. The Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry and the full list of winners can be found here.

“We feel blessed that Tanah Gajah has achieved this milestone and is now recognized amongst the top resorts in the world,” said Deasy Swandarini, GM of Tanah Gajah Ubud. “We are also proud that we were the only independent boutique resort brand in Indonesia to make it onto the list.”

The 20-key property is spread out over six lush hectares of land in the uplands of Bali. With roots that go back to the legendary designer and art collector, Hendra Hadiprana, the property has long attracted art and design lovers. It was originally built in the 1980s as a holiday home for Hadiprana and his family and was transformed into a resort in 2004. Though the Hadiprana family relinquished its occupancy of the site as a private family compound, the patriarch’s art collection remained, and numerous sculptures, antiques, and artwork from his travels can be found throughout the property to this day.

The resort offers two dining destinations, The Tempayan and Panen Padi Lounge. The new Tempayan was unveiled in 2020 with a design inspired by wantilan, a Balinese style pavilion. The tapas outlet, Panen Padi Lounge, also debuted during the pandemic. Both locations command prime locations with views over rice paddies and the resort’s hot air balloon experience.

The resort’s spa also takes in the property’s quintessential Balinese landscape, while the main pool is guarded over by Ganesh statues and partially flanked by ponds with resident swans. Private pool villas are available for guests who would like to enjoy a dip in privacy.

Raffles Hotel Le Royal Wins Placement on Prestigious Condé Nast Traveler Awards

The landmark heritage property was voted the No. 1 hotel in Cambodia for 2022

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct. 7, 2022) — Raffles Hotel Le Royal, the iconic 90-year-old luxury hotel in the Cambodian capital, was named one of the Top 10 hotels in Southeast Asia by readers of the US-based travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler.




The 175-room landmark heritage property was also ranked the No. 1 hotel in Cambodia in the annual Readers’ Choice Awards, which, now in their 35th year, are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry.

“Our remarkable history, world-class service and timeless elegance are truly extraordinary, and this recognition—being voted the top hotel in Cambodia by some of the world’s most discerning travelers—offers further testament to that sentiment,” said Raffles Hotel Le Royal’s General Manager Dennis de Groot.




Designed in the 1920s by French architect Ernest Hébrard, the hotel is an imposing statement of Khmer, Art Deco and French Colonial styles and includes four suites dedicated to previous guests Jacqueline Kennedy, Charles de Gaulle, Andre Malraux and Somerset Maugham.

Hotel Le Royal originally opened its doors with just 55 rooms in 1929. It was taken over by Raffles in the 1990s at the invitation of Cambodia’s King Sihanouk, and relaunched as Raffles Hotel Le Royal in 1997 after a sensitive extension and refurbishment. To protect this treasure of Cambodian heritage, local artisans were commissioned to recreate painted ceilings, decorative beaten copper crests and outdoor sculptures.




Each of the rooms and suites at Raffles Hotel Le Royal underwent a full refurbishment as part of a meticulous one-year restoration project in 2019. Returning guests found lighter and brighter interiors, accentuated by spotlights, in addition to Segafredo coffee machines and Simmons pillow-top mattresses among the new features that add modern appeal. The Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry. PGA Catalunya Resort earns double crown at the 2020 IAGTO Awards

PGA Catalunya Resort, near Girona, has collected the IAGTO Sustainability Award for Nature Protection 2020, while its 5* Hotel Camiral won the Hotel Experience Award for Spain.


Each year, the IAGTO Sustainability Awards, which form part of the golf tourism industry’s wider IAGTO Awards, recognise excellence in environmental and social responsibility. They are awarded by global golf tourism trade association IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators) in conjunction with non-profit golf sustainability body, the GEO Foundation, and sanction GEO Certified venues in three key areas of sustainability – Nature, Resources and Community.


“As a certified venue since 2013, PGA Catalunya Resort has long fostered a strong environmental ethos, steadily transforming itself into an important and recognised ecological reserve,” commented CEO David Plana. “From the use of 100% recycled water to irrigate our two critically-acclaimed courses, the landscaped areas of the estate and the properties’ individual gardens, to the recruitment of our own resident biologist, Oriol Dalmau, we have invested in a number of programmes that aim to support the wildlife of the estate.”

The European Tour Destination soon realised that while many species of plant and animal in the wider region were struggling, the local flora and fauna on the estate were now flourishing. Local breeds of bats, birds, frogs, tortoises and certain plant varieties were all benefiting from PGA Catalunya Resort’s own particular ecosystem, not to mention the colony of one million bees of a local endangered variety, which is now thriving.
